Here are your February 2015 Craft Wars Finalists!!
The theme was love…
All of me, loves all of you.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all of your mind.
It was HARD to choose 5. My daughters and I poured over them, we read and reread the stories behind the pieces. They all really touched our hearts. True deep love is felt in so any ways, and shown in even more. Enjoy the top 5!! If you didn’t make it this time, I’m so very sorry. Please keep entering!!
I have always loved this scripture! I think it describes how a lot of people love or allow others to love them. Sometimes we keep a bit of our heart locked or hidden, to avoid hurt or vulnerability. I find that there are times in my life that I even keep parts of my heart from my Heavenly Father. When we only give part of ourselves to our God or others that love us, we don’t fully live or love. The piece I created was my interpretation of these jumbled thoughts… thoughts that are sometimes easier to express through creativity.
I chose to craft a Matt. 22:37 kind of LOVE by using old items I have salvaged along the way. The layers in this piece are like all the layers of our own self that we need to give to God. He stands at the door of our heart knocking and holds the key to unlock our happiness! That is the reason for the old doorplate and key along with an accent of red in the embellishments.
I designed this button heart to represent all of the different stages of our life and our walk with the Lord. We praise him and love him through it all.
I chose to do what I did because the subject was of course “love”. I feel like there are so many different aspects to the word love esp as a believer. I came across these vintage hankies and decided to embroider “my beloved is mine” for two reasons. The first is because I know that I am able to love and be love because He first loved us. He loves us with such a deep unwavering love. I met my husband just as I was becoming a new Christian and it was through Him that I began to discover something true and different. I had been so hurt and damaged by past experiences that it was hard for me to understand the fullness of Gods love for me and my husbands love for me as well.
I chose to do a mixed media canvas that represents loving God with my whole self. In the top right corner you’ll see some hearts made from burlap representing my loving God with my imperfect heart, imperfect affection. Sometimes it’s rough around the edges but God makes my heart beautiful and new, represented by the pretty doily heart adorned with sparkles.
Along the bottom you’ll see some things that represent my soul–my life, my inner being, some of the things that make me me. God has made me a mom, a musician, and a wife–the latter represented by the tulips because they are my favorite flower, were in my wedding bouquet, and when my husband chooses to bless me with flowers he tracks down some tulips 💗.
The scripture verses from Romans 12 and Philippians 4 on the right represent loving God with my mind, not only in the study of his Word, but these verses in particular discuss renewing our minds and thinking on those things that are true, lovely, noble, etc. The verses in the upper left corner are the theme and surrounding verses.
